Borinquen Gallo

Borinquen Gallo is an artist and educator born in Rome, Italy who lives and works in NYC.

She holds a B.F.A., from Cooper Union; an M.F.A. in Painting, from Hunter College, and is a Ed.D. candidate, at Teachers College, Columbia University.

She is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Design Education at Pratt Institute and Instructor at the National Academy Museum and School where she was also appointed as Studio Practice Program Head, 2015-2016.

Areas of expertise include contemporary art practices and contemporary art-based-education, studio-based education, and the intersections of art practice, curation and education.

National and international exhibitions include the Warsaw International Art Expo, 2015; the Bronx Museum of the Arts 2015; Scope Miami, 2015; and the National Academy Museum, 2016.

Residencies include the Vermont Studio Center, 2013, the AIM Residency at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, 2015, and the Skidmore College Visiting Artist Residency, 2016. Curatorial Projects include: “Exhibiting Education” Series at the Nancy Ross Project Space, Pratt Institute; “Drawing Democracies”, Pratt Institute; and “Bronx Utopias: Imagination and Collaborative Practice”, in connection with the Bronx Council of the Arts, 2015. Awards and honors include the Doris Liebowitz Art Educator Award, 2009; the Marion Netter Fellowship at Columbia University, 2010, the Art Fund Grant, 2015 and the Percent for Art Commission 2016.
